Men's Tennis Opens Fall Play At Milwaukee Classic

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Ball State University men's tennis team opened fall play at the 40th annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic hosted by Marquette Friday at the Town Club in Fox Point, Wis.
In singles action, the Cardinals opened fall play against host Marquette. Freshman Marko Guzina, in his collegiate debut, defeated Nick Dykema in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Jan Jirus also claimed a 6-2, 6-7, 3-1 victory over Kristiyan Trukov. Rounding out the wins for Ball State were Collin Rigney and Nemanja Guzina. Ringey took down his opponent in straight sets while N. Guzina earned a three set victory over Scott Christian.
Ball State took two of the three doubles matches against its opponent Valparaiso. Lucas Andersen paired up with Andrew Stutz for a 6-2 victory over Dave Bacalla and Daniel Oakes, 6-1. The Cardinals twosome of Guzina and Matt Helm took down Michael Savaglio and Lucas Waak also by a score of 6-1.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues fall action at the 40th annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic Saturday at 10:00 a.m. (EST) against Wisconsin in singles play and then the Cardinals will face Marquette in doubles competition at 4 p.m. (EST).
The 40th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic is Sept. 18-20 at The Town Club in Fox Point, Wis. The tournament is presented by Milwaukee Tennis Classic, Inc. and Marquette University.
