MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State men's golf team will open its fall schedule this weekend, playing with some of the nation's top teams at the Northern Intercollegiate.
The Cardinals will tee it up alongside preseason No. 1 Illinois, No. 7 UCLA and No. 24 Virginia at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. The Cavaliers are the defending tournament champion.
The action gets underway with 36 holes Saturday and concludes with the final 18 holes Sunday. Live scoring is available at birdiefire.com.
Senior James Blackwell earned the top spot in the Ball State lineup through preseason qualifying. He will be joined this weekend by Timothy Wiseman, Johnny Watts, Derek Kundenreich and Keegan McKinney.
Watts is back for his sophomore campaign after winning the Mid-American Conference Championships and playing in an NCAA Regional last spring. McKinney, an All-MAC performer as a freshman two years ago, is back after a medical redshirt season.
Wiseman, a freshman from Corydon, Ind., finished second in preseason qualifying, while Kundenreich, a senior from Yorktown, was also impressive.
The full 14-team field for the Northern Intercollegiate also includes Indiana, Purdue, Louisville, Marquette, Houston, UCF, Winthrop and New Mexico State along with fellow MAC teams Toledo and tournament host Northern Illinois.
This is the fifth straight year Ball State has played at Rich Harvest Farms, a top-level course that will serve as the site of the 2017 NCAA Championships. McKinney will lead the Cardinals off the first tee Saturday at 7:38 a.m. CT (8:38 ET).
