Soccer Tops IUPUI 3-0 in Exhibition Action
August 16, 2015 | Soccer
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Ball State soccer team posted a 3-0 exhibition victory Saturday at IUPUI in its lone tuneup for the 2015 season.
The Cardinals scored all three goals in the opening 35 minutes and rolled to a shutout. Chelsy Swackhamer, Abbey Fiser and Leah Mattingly each scored.
“I thought we looked good offensively with possession and attacking,” head coach Craig Roberts said. “Defensively, the back line blended very well.”
Ball State was able to rotate through its roster, something important for a team that features double-digit newcomers.
“We were able to give lots of players some experience,” Roberts said. “We have some challenges ahead of us in terms of our lineup because we have a lot of competition for positions.”
Ball State will open its regular season Friday at Jacksonville State. The team will play its first home game Aug. 28 against Wright State at the Briner Sports Complex.
