Pair of MVB Recruits Named High School All-Americans

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Parker Swartz (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) and Adam Wessel (Milwaukee, Wis./Brookfield East), incoming freshmen for the Ball State men's volleyball team, have been named 2015 Volleyball Magazine Boys' High School First Team All-Americans.
“We have a strong group of student-athletes joining our team this fall,” head coach Joel Walton said. “Having two of our four incoming freshmen named Volleyball Magazine All-Americans emphasizes our incoming players' abilities. Parker and Adam both had highly successful high school and club seasons this past year. Additionally, both are strong students planning to study in Ball State's honors program beginning this fall. We are excited to begin our training for the 2015-16 season, with Parker and Adam being great additions to our roster.”
Swartz and Wessel are two of just 12 student-athletes from around to country to earn recognition on Volleyball Magazine's top All-America squad. In addition, Ball State and two-time defending national champion Loyola were the only Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association programs with first team honorees.
Swartz, who was also named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Second Team earlier this summer, helped guide Glenbard West High School to a 40-2 record and the program's first Illinois State Championship is senior season. In the state title match versus Vernon Hills, the 6-foot-5 middle hitter connected for kills on all seven of his attack attempts in a 25-15, 25-13 victory.
Wessel, the 2014 Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association Player of the Year, finished his senior season at Brookfield East High School with 293 digs, 46 assists and 29 service aces. The 5-foot-11 libero was also named First Team All-State after helping lead the Spartans to a 16-1 overall record, including a perfect 5-0 mark in Greater Metro League action.
