Baseball's Alex Call Receives High Academic Honor
June 05, 2015 | Baseball
Alex Call, a sophomore member of the Ball State baseball team, has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Third Team, which is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
"What a great honor for Alex," Ball State head baseball coach Rich Maloney said. "He is truly an outstanding example of a true student-athlete. Alex is on track to graduate in three years and work toward an MBA in his fourth year. We are thrilled for him to receive this incredible honor and he is certainly a person who excels academically and athletically."
Call, who owns a 3.95 cumulative grade-point average on Ball State's 4.0 scale as an entrepreneurial management major, led the Cardinals with a .339 batting average in 2015. Call was second for the team in runs-batted-in (42), third in doubles (10) and fourth in home runs (5).
Call has made 107 career starts and reached base safely in 99 of those contests. He led the Cardinals with 23 multi-hit games and was second with 10 multi-RBI contests in 2014.
Call was named to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team after helping Ball State to a 33-25 overall record and a berth in the MAC Tournament Championship Game.
