MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State women's tennis coach Max Norris has announced the hiring of graduate assistant Tessa Lyons to his 2015-16 staff.
"I am elated to have Tessa Lyons join the Ball State program," Norris said. "Tessa was one of the best competitors in college tennis during her playing days. She always rose to the occasion and loved playing for her teammates and coaches. That kind of passion and desire will make her a great coach. Tessa has experience playing with and against the best players in the country and most importantly, she was a major contributor on multiple championship teams at North Carolina. I believe her experience and insight will help us get to the next level as a program. Off the court Tessa is an extremely loyal, trustworthy and caring person. She will be a great role model and leader to our players. We are excited for next season."
Lyons earned her bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina in 2014. She lettered all four years in tennis for the Tar Heels.
At North Carolina, Lyons was a starter on the 2011 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament Championship Team, the 2013 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Indoor Championship Team and helped the Tar Heels finish as runner-ups at the 2014 NCAA Tournament. Lyons ended her career with a 101-47singles record and an 87-39 doubles mark. She also helped the Tar Heels to 104 victories during her four-year career, along with three ACC Championship titles.
"I couldn't be more excited for this opportunity to join the Ball State program in the classroom and on the court," Lyons said. "I was lucky enough to have Max as a coach for two years at UNC, so I know working alongside of him will be a great learning experience and we can continue to bring this team to the next level."
Lyons has recently served as the Director of Junior Tennis at Maidstone Country Club located in East Hampton, NY while also working as a sales intern at Vox Media in New York, NY from 2014-15. She will be working towards a master's degree in journalism this fall at Ball State.
