Rain Hampers T&F's Day At RedHawk Invitational
April 25, 2015 | Track & Field
OXFORD, Ohio - - Wet weather hampered the Ball State outdoor track & field team's efforts at Saturday's RedHawk Invitational, with the squad able to compete in just three events in the rain-shortened event at George L. Rider Track in Oxford, Ohio.
Despite being limited by the weather, the seven Cardinals who were able to compete notched five career-best performances. Leading the way was junior Marie Lumpkin (Losantville, Ind./Union) in the hammer throw with a fourth-place mark of 53.44m, which is just 0.12m shy of the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championship automatic qualifying mark of 53.56m.
In the 1500m run, sophomore Jordan Timmons (Bargersville, Ind./Center Grove) led four Cardinals to the finish line by placing third with a career-best time of 4:52.99.
In other action, senior Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) turned in a solid performance in four heptathlon events on Thursday at the Hillsdale College “GINA” Relays, only to be forced to withdrawal on the second day of the event. Lomax won three of the four heptathlon events on the opening day, including career-best efforts in the 200m dash (25.46) and shot put (12.30m).
The Ball State outdoor track & field team is scheduled to return to action Friday at the two-day Rankin Invitational hosted by Purdue.
