T&F Earns Solid Marks At Rankin/Poehlein Invite

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - - Led by strong efforts in the long jump, javelin and pole vault, the Ball State outdoor track & field team tallied nine career-best efforts at the Rankin/Poehlein Invitational hosted by Purdue.
With its seniors back in Muncie for graduation, the Cardinals also managed 13 top 10 performances at the non-scored meet.
Sophomore Makelle Skelton (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) just missed the Mid-American Conference outdoor championship automatic qualifying mark of 5.88m in the long jump, posting an outdoor career-best leap of 5.85m to place third in the event. Skelton also placed eighth in the 100m dash with a time of 12.19.
In the javelin, junior Michaela Hull (Bloomington, Ind./South) also fell just short of a MAC automatic qualifying mark with a career-best throw of 38.07m. The MAC auto mark for the event is 38.93. In addition, Hull placed 14th in the discus (39.14m) and 18th in the hammer throw (43.20m) over the course of the two-day meet.
Rounding out Ball State's top performers at the Rankin/Poehlein invite was sophomore pole vaulter Elizabeth Eversole (Mishawaka, Ind./Marian) who successfully cleared the bar at a career-best outdoor height of 3.66m to place sixth in the field. The effort was also just shy of the MAC automatic mark of 3.75m for the event.
Members of the Ball State outdoor track & field team will have two more chances to qualify for the 2015 MAC Outdoor Championships next week, with members of the team competing in both the Hillsdale Classic hosted by Hillsdale College Thursday, May 7 and the Cardinal Twilight hosted by Louisville Friday, May 8.
The 2015 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held May 14-16 at Ball State's University Track at the Briner Sports Complex.
