MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State women's golf team opens play Friday morning in the Mid-American Conference Championships in Lebanon, Ohio.
The Cardinals will tee off at 9 a.m. in the opening round at Shaker Run Golf Club, which is hosting the MAC Championships for the first time. The three-day event will determine the league's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championships.
Bowling Green is the host school for this year's event outside Cincinnati. Live scoring will be available throughout the tournament at golfstat.com.
Ball State's lineup will consist of former MAC champion Jenna Hague along with Allison Lindley, Kelsey Sear, Meghan McDougall and Mary Ellen Romero.
Hague, the team's lone senior, was the medalist as a freshman in 2012 and has finished in the top-5 in each of her three MAC Championships starts. The other four members of the Ball State lineup will be making their first appearance at the league tournament.
Kent State enters as the tournament's highest ranked team at No. 36 in the Golfstat rankings. The Golden Flashes are once again the defending champion, having won their 16th consecutive MAC title last year. Kent State's Jennifer Ha is the two-time defending medalist.
Ball State has twice finished as the MAC runner-up (2010 and 2012). The Cardinals are coming off a third-place finish in their final regular season tournament at Eastern Kentucky's Colonel Classic. Romero tied for third place as Ball State's top finisher in the rain-shortened, 18-hole event.
