Men?s Golf Faces Stern Test in Nashville
April 02, 2015 | Men's Golf
The Ball State men's golf team is part of a loaded field this week at Vanderbilt's Mason Rudolph Championship outside Nashville.
Eleven of the top 100 teams in the Golfstat rankings will be competing, including five of the top 30 -- Vanderbilt (6), Georgia Tech (15), Kennesaw State (21), SMU (24) and two-time defending national champion Alabama (27). Alabama, Georgia Tech and SMU were each among the final eight teams for the match play portion of last year's NCAA Championships.
The rest of the 14-team field includes Ball State, Georgia Southern, East Tennessee State, Louisville, Mercer, College of Charleston, Liberty, Notre Dame and Indiana.
The 54-hole tournament will be contested over three days at the Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course in Franklin, Tenn. The action gets underway Friday at 8 a.m. CT (9 a.m. ET) with a split tee start. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Ball State's lineup will feature McCormick Clouser, Michael VanDeventer, Johnny Watts, Zach Yinger and James Blackwell. Derek Kundenreich will compete as an individual.
The Cardinals last played March 15-16 when they hosted the Talis Park Challenge in Naples, Fla. VanDeventer led the team with a tie for 20th place. Vanderbilt finished second on the team leaderboard, four shots behind LSU.
This week's tournament is one of two events on the April schedule as the Cardinals gear up for the Mid-American Conference Championships the first weekend in May.
