
Men's Tennis Defeats Butler On the Road, 5-2

The Ball State men's tennis team took home a 5-2 victory at Butler Wednesday afternoon in Indianapolis. With the win, the Cardinals evened their overall record to 9-9 on the season while the Bulldogs fall to 5-11 on the year.
"It was nice to bounce back with a win today after a rough loss Friday," Ball State head men's tennis coach Bill Richards said. "It was an overall good team effort. Big weekend ahead!"
The Cardinals took the early 1-0 advantage over the Bulldogs after winning the doubles point. On the top court, Patrick Elliott paired up with teammate Lucas Andersen to take the 7-6 (1) defeat over Butler's Billy Weldon and Sam O'Neil. Ball State claimed the point with a win on court two after Ray Leonard and Collin Rigney defeated Brand Woods and Pulok Bhattacharya by a score of 7-5.
In singles action, Ball State took four of the six singles matches from Butler. Andersen claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win over Sam O'Neil at the No. 1 singles position while teammate Leonard managed a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Austin Woldmoe. Elliott and Patrick Downs rounded out the victories for the Cardinals after posting straight set wins on their respective courts.
The Ball State men's tennis team returns to Mid-American Conference action Saturday when it hosts Northern Illinois for a 1 p.m. first serve at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
