Baseball Falls to 19-9; Hosts Akron Friday at 3 p.m.

Ball State's baseball team suffered a 14-5 midweek non-conference loss at Indiana State Wednesday to fall to 19-9 overall.
The Cardinals will take their 5-1 Mid-American Conference record into league action Friday through Sunday vs. Akron at Ball Diamond in the First Merchants Ballpark Complex. All Ball State home baseball games are free admission and Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Against Indiana State, the Sycamores rallied for eight runs in the first three innings to take an 8-3 lead. The Cardinals could only muster one more run in the sixth and one in the eighth, while Indiana State tallied six more scores in their final two at-bats to claim the win.
Jarett Rindfleisch homered for a third straight game when his shot sailed over the right field fence in the second inning to get the Cardinals on the scoreboard first. Rindfleisch added to his runs-batted-in total when his single in the third inning scored Matt Eppers and Sean Kennedy to pull the Cardinals within 4-3.
Down by an 8-3 margin in the sixth, Ball State's Colin Brockhouse opened the inning with a single to right field and eventually scored on a Kennedy single to the left side of the infield to narrow the ISU lead to 8-4.
The Cardinals were able to add one more run in the eighth after singles by Nick Hollowell and Scott Tyler reached on back-to-back singles and Hollowell scored on an Indiana State error.
In a game that was pre-determined to be pitched by committee by the Cardinals, Brendan Burns started and pitched 1.1 innings, but suffered the loss to fall to 3-1 on the season.
Kennedy, Rindfleisch, Brockhouse and Eppers each tallied two hits apiece for Ball State with Rindfleisch's homer being his fourth of the season.
