Men?s Golf Completes Opening Day at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Fourth-ranked Illinois raced out to a 17-shot lead Saturday at the Boilermaker Invitational, where the Ball State men's golf team is competing this weekend.
The Illini posted a two-round total of 32-under par 544 (276-268) on the opening day at Purdue's Kampen Course. Louisville (-15), GRU Augusta (-2) and Ohio State (-1) are also under par. Charlie Danielson of Illinois is the individual leader at 12 under.
Ball State struggled through a difficult second round to finish the day at 609 (296-313). The Cardinals are in 15th place with one round to play.
Michael VanDeventer is the top Ball State player on the individual leaderboard in a tie for 50th at 6-over par 150 (76-74). Tyler Ostrom had the Cardinals' best round of the day at even par for the first 18 holes and finished the day in a tie for 59th at 8-over 152 (72-80).
Johnny Watts at 154 (74-80), McCormick Clouser at 154 (74-80) and Zach Yinger at 159 (80-79) round out the lineup. Michael Makris is competing as an individual and sits at 155 (75-80).
