VanDeventer Leads Men?s Golf on Day 1 in Naples

NAPLES, Fla. -- No. 5 Vanderbilt sits atop the leaderboard after Sunday's opening two rounds at the Talis Park Challenge hosted by the Ball State men's golf team.
The defending champion Commodores own a 36-hole score of 560 (-8) and hold a two-shot lead over fellow SEC squad LSU, the nation's 13th-ranked team.
Ball State is 13th at 587 (+14). The Cardinals were middle of the pack after an opening-round 289 at Talis Park Golf Club but fell back after shooting 298 in the afternoon.
Freshman Michael VanDeventer turned in two steady rounds of even par and leads the Cardinals in a tie for 15th at 142. McCormick Clouser posted the team's best round of the day with a 3-under 68 in the morning but fell back with a second-round 78. He is tied for 37th at 146.
Johnny Watts at 150 (74-76), Michael Makris at 152 (79-73) and Zach Yinger at 157 (76-81) round out the lineup. Derek Kundenreich, competing as an individual, is tied with Makris at 152 (76-76).
Three players are tied for the individual lead at 7-under par 135 -- Adria Arnaus of Texas A&M, Otto Black of Toledo and Jake Sherwin of Florida Gulf Coast.
