Ball State's baseball team won its third and fourth games in a row after taking a doubleheader at Dayton Sunday afternoon.

With the pair of wins, the Cardinals improve to 11-7 overall and will host Rutgers Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Ball Diamond in the First Merchants Ballpark Complex.

In the first game Saturday, Ball State managed a 5-4 win on the strength of four runs in the final two innings.

The second game saw the Cardinals pound out 17 hits and post a 15-4 victory over the Flyers.

David Current recorded the win in the first game after pitching the middle 3.2 innings and allowing only one hit, zero runs and striking out two. Scott Baker started the game and pitched the first 4.1 innings, allowing four runs and striking out three. B.J. Butler tallied his fourth save of the season after throwing the final inning and allowing no runs.

Elbert Devarie was 4-for-4 in the first game with two runs-batted-in and one run scored. Alex Maloney was 2-for-4 with a triple, a RBI and two runs scored.

The second game saw Brendan Burns earn the pitching victory after throwing 6.0 innings with five hits, one earned run and striking out five. Burns improved to 3-0 with the win.

Alex Call and Matt Eppers tallied three hits apiece, while Call led the Cardinals with three RBI in the game. Jarrett James was 2-for-2 with two RBI, while Brandon Estep knocked in two runs in five at-bats.

After falling behind 4-1 through seven innings in the first game, Ball State scored two runs in the eighth on the strength of a Devarie single to center field. In the ninth, the Cardinals rallied for two more runs on a Maloney RBI single and a Sean Kennedy RBI single.

In game two, Ball State rallied for nine runs in the first three innings to take a 9-1 lead and added a run in the fifth and four more in the seventh to coast to the 15-4 win.
