
Men's Tennis Suffers 7-0 Loss At No. 16 Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis competed against its second-straight nationally ranked opponent in two days Sunday, when the Cardinals fell 7-0 to No. 16 Notre Dame at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
Ball State trailed 1-0 early on in the match after the Fighting Irish took the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, Patrick Elliott and Andrew Stutz took a point from Notre Dame's No. 8 doubles tandem Alex Lawson and Billy Pecor but lost 6-1. Ray Leonard alongside teammate Collin Rigney fell at the No. 2 position 6-3 while fellow Cardinals Lucas Andersen and Matt Helm suffered a 6-2 setback on court No. 3.
Notre Dame took all six singles match from Ball State all in straight sets. Andersen was the final match on court No. 1 and scored the most points out of all the Cardinals but fell to No. 37 Quentin Monaghan, 6-4, 7-5. Both Leonard and Stutz lost 6-3, 6-4 to their opponents at the No. 3 and No. 5 singles positions.
The Ball State men's tennis team returns home Friday when it hosts Xavier at 2 p.m. at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
