Men's Tennis Wins Doubleheader Over Taylor Friday

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team improved to 6-5 on the season with two 7-0 wins over Taylor University Friday night in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
The Cardinals started the night off with a 3-0 sweep in doubles action. At No. 1 doubles, Ray Leonard paired up with Andrew Stutz to take down Taylor's twosome, Juan Ramirez and Carter Perry, 6-0. At No. 2 doubles, Lucas Andersen paired up with Jan Jirus and would defeat Chris Robbins and Devin Moore by a score of 6-4. Patrick Elliott and Pat O'Connor rounded out the doubles victories at the No. 3 spot after posting a 6-1 victory over Alex Jung and Jacob Scott.
Ball State took all six of the singles matches from the Trojans in straight sets. On court two, Andersen did not give up a point winning, 6-0, 6-0 over Perry. Leonard, Elliott, Rigney, Downs and Helm also earned convincing wins in their respective positions.
The Cardinals night cap over the Trojans mimicked the first match. Leonard and Rigney earned a convincing victory over the Trojans No. 1 doubles tandem, Ramirez and Perry by a score of 6-0. Elliott alongside Jirus won in doubles action as did their teammates Helm and O'Connor.
Ball State again took all six singles matches from Taylor. O'Connor, on court six, did not give up a point winning 6-0, 6-0 over Ruben Bedon.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues non-conference action Friday at Belmont in Nashville, Tenn. at 2 p.m. The Cardinals will then take on Lipscomb, Saturday at 1 p.m. before ending the weekend at Vanderbilt, Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
