December 04, 2015 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State placed three players on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Great Lakes Region Team. Lorina White was named to the first team, while Chelsy Swackhamer and Abbie Boswell were second-team picks.
The three all-region selections tie the most ever for the Cardinals, which claimed the Mid-American Conference regular season and West Division championships in 2015 with a record of 14-3-3 (10-1 MAC).
White, a junior defender from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., was the MAC Defensive Player of the Year. The former junior college national player of the year helped lead a back line effort that allowed only 6.6 shots and 3.1 shots on goal per game. The Cardinals ranked 17th in the country in goals against average at .623. White also added four goals.
Swackhamer, a senior midfielder from Zionsville, Ind., led the MAC with five game-winning goals. She scored nine goals total to rank fifth on Ball State's single-season list. She also had three assists on the season to lead the Cardinals with 21 total points.
Boswell, a freshman forward from Woodridge, Ill., was the MAC Freshman of the Year. Her 10 goals rank second on the Cardinals' single-season list and are the most ever for a Ball State freshman. She ranked fourth in the MAC in scoring.
Boswell and Swackhamer led an offensive attack that ranked 10th nationally in shots per game (18.5) and 11th in shots on goal per game (8.45).
The all-region selections are the first for Ball State since the 2006 season. The Cardinals also had three selections that year (two second team and one third team). White is the third player in program history to earn first-team honors, joining Dee Nocero (2004) and Krista Mitts (2005).
