Soccer Championship Season Highlights

MUNCIE, Ind. -- It was a banner year for the Ball State soccer team, which captured the Mid-American Conference regular season championship for the first time since 2007.
The Cardinals were widely recognized on both a team and individual level, finishing their season with an overall record of 14-3-3 and a mark of 10-1 in the MAC.
Here is a look at some of the team's major accomplishments from the season …
Team Highlights
-- Won the MAC regular season championship (third time in program history and first since 2007)
-- Set the program record for conference wins in a season with 10
-- 30 points in the MAC standings are tied for the second-most by any team under the 11-game league format (Miami owns the record with 31 points in 2012)
-- Finished one shy of the school record for total wins in a season with 14 (the 2005 team owns the school record with 15 with a record of 15-3-2)
-- Reached double-figure wins for the third straight season (11 wins in each of the previous two years)
-- Registered nine shutouts for the third straight year, coming up one shy of the school record
-- Tied the program records for winning streak (8 games) and unbeaten streak (9 games)
-- Reached as high as No. 68 in the RPI and finished the year at No. 72 (the highest year-end rating for a Ball State team is 67 in 2002)
-- Placed five players on the All-MAC First Team, tying the league record

-- Shots per game: 18.5 – 1st in MAC, 13th in nation
-- Shots on goal per game: 8.45 – 1st in MAC, 13th in nation
-- Winning percentage: .775 – 1st in MAC, 20th in nation
-- Goals against average: .623 – 1st in MAC, 21st in nation
-- Shutout percentage: .450 – 3rd in MAC, 52nd in nation
-- Goals per game: 1.75 – 3rd in MAC, 70th in nation
Awards
-- MAC Defensive Player of the Year: Lorina White (first league player of the year in program history)
-- MAC Freshman of the Year: Abbie Boswell (first league freshman of the year in program history)
-- All-MAC First Team: White, Boswell, Leah Mattingly, Chelsy Swackhamer, Alyssa Heintschel
-- MAC Players of the Week: Heintschel (defensive) twice, Boswell (offensive), Swackhamer (offensive), Mattingly (defensive)
-- Top Drawer Soccer Women's Team of the Week: Mattingly
Individual Highlights
-- Boswell ranked fourth in the league with 10 goals, while Swackhamer ranked fifth with nine. Swackhamer's five game-winning goals led the league.
-- Boswell's 10 goals are the most by a Ball State freshman and the second-most by a Cardinal of any class. Swackhamer's nine goals rank fifth on the Ball State single-season list
-- Boswell and Swackhamer's 19 combined goals were the second most of any duo in the MAC and the second most of any duo in Ball State history (Kate Nadalin (13) and Dee Nocero (7) own the most by any Ball State duo with 20 combined goals in 2003)
-- Swackhamer's 21 total points rank fifth in school history, while Boswell's 20 rank sixth
-- Heintschel ranked second in the MAC with a 0.63 goals against average, the fourth best mark in school history. Her 14 wins this year are the second-most ever by a Ball State goalkeeper in a single season, behind only the 15 of Alison Becker in 2005
-- Madison Oyer finished her career eighth on Ball State's all-time assists list with 11 and did it in just three seasons
