MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State soccer team will play its final home games of the regular season this weekend, starting with a Senior Day matchup Friday against Akron.
The Mid-American Conference championship race is hitting the home stretch. There are three games left for teams to position themselves for the league tournament, and the Cardinals (11-3-2, 7-1 MAC) are leading the way by two points over Western Michigan for the top seed.
Ball State is looking to begin a new streak after suffering its first loss in a month and a half with an overtime defeat Sunday at Western Michigan. The team's eight-game winning streak and nine-game unbeaten streak both tied school records.
On Friday, Ball State will host an Akron team (6-9-1, 3-5 MAC) that split two games last weekend. The Zips lost 3-0 to Central Michigan and earned a 2-1 win over Toledo.
Before Friday's game, the Cardinals will recognize their seven seniors -- Jenna Finke, Kalynn Flanagan, Erin Greeley, Lauren Hall, Elaina Musleh, Madison Oyer and Chelsy Swackhamer.
Sunday's game with Buffalo is a rematch of last season's MAC Tournament semifinal. The teams met twice a season ago, both times in Buffalo. The Bulls emerged twice in overtime, both times by a score of 2-1. They went on to win the conference regular season and tournament titles.
This year's Buffalo squad (9-5-2, 5-2-1 MAC) is tied with Miami for first place in the MAC East Division and third in the overall league standings. The Bulls posted two wins last weekend -- 3-1 over Toledo and 3-0 over Central Michigan.
