Han Earns First Goal Of The Season Versus Longwood
October 02, 2015 | Field Hockey
FARMVILLE, Va. – The Ball State (1-10, 0-1 MAC) field hockey team opened Mid-American Conference play on a rainy Friday evening against Longwood (4-5, 2-2 MAC) and fell to the Lancers 3-1 despite senior Bethany Han (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) notching her first goal of the season.
The Cardinals and the Lancers remained scoreless through nearly the first half, until Longwood's Becky Danaher opened the scoring. Han responded for the Cardinals quickly after halftime, dribbling in an unassisted shot to the bottom right corner of the net just 1:34 in, in the 36th minute overall.
Longwood then closed out the scoring with goals in the 42nd and 44th minutes to finalize the score at 3-1 in favor of the Lancers.
Back in net, junior goalkeeper Jordan Dues (Fallbrook, Calif./Fallbrook) stretched her starting streak, and made her 11th start of the season and recorded an astonishing 12 saves when faced with 22 attempted shots.
Attacking Dues was a persistent Longwood offense, which tallied 15 shots on goal from the 22 attempted, compared to the Cardinals 11 attempted shots with six on net. Han also marked four of the Cardinals six shots on goal, with others being posted by redshirt senior Bianca Velez (Virginia Beach, Va./Floyd E. Kellum/Beach Premiere) and sophomore Abbey Main (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy).
Penalty corner opportunities were sparse throughout the 70 minute conference matchup, as Ball State only benefitted from three, while Longwood drew five.
Up next, the Ball State field hockey team will continue the three-game road stretch, in which they will face Virginia Commonwealth and Miami in the coming week.
