MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State soccer team rides the nation's longest winning streak into a Mid-American Conference road weekend with trips to Northern Illinois and Western Michigan.
The Cardinals have won seven straight games, dating back to their non-conference finale at Morehead State, and are tied with George Washington, Pacific and Samford for the longest active streak. One more win would match the best streak in school history.
Ball State (10-2-2, 6-0 MAC) has climbed all the way to No. 68 in this week's RPI rankings and is the highest rated MAC team by 31 spots.
The Cardinals will open this weekend at Northern Illinois, which is 2-11 (1-5 MAC) after dropping conference games last weekend to Buffalo, 4-1, and Akron, 2-1. The Huskies won their MAC opener against Toledo but have since lost five in a row.
Sunday's matchup at Western Michigan pits the two teams picked to finish atop the West Division in the league's preseason poll.
Western Michigan is 7-3-3 (4-1-1 MAC) after playing Buffalo to a 1-1 tie and winning 2-1 over Akron last weekend. The Broncos will play at home for a second straight weekend, hosting Miami on Friday before Ball State visits.
Ball State earned 1-0 victories over both Northern Illinois and Western Michigan last season in Muncie.
The Cardinals have outscored their opponents 13-4 in their six conference games, and they lead the MAC with 2.17 goals per game during league play.
Abbie Boswell and Chelsy Swackhamer both scored twice last weekend. With 13 goals between them, they are the second-highest scoring duo in the MAC.
Boswell owns seven goals and needs just one more to break the Ball State freshman record. The Woodridge, Ill., product will be playing close to home Friday at Northern Illinois.
