MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team lost a 4-3 hard fought battle to Wright State Saturday afternoon at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. The Cardinals fall to 1-1 overall while Raiders improve to 1-1.
"Wright State out-competed us from start to finish," Ball State head women's tennis coach Max Norris said. "Credit to them. I think some players on our team are right on the verge of getting big wins, we've just got to keep working."
The Cardinals started the match off down 1-0 after losing the doubles point. Rosalinda Calderon paired up with Bethany Moore to earn the only victory for Ball State with the twosome's 6-3 defeat over Tori Turner and Aby Madrigal.
In singles action Courntey Wild and Courtney Earnest improved to 2-0 on the season after winning in straight sets at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions respectively. At No. 5 singles, Calderon won the first set 7-6(4) but would drop the next set 6-2 to Elaine Cloern. Calderon would come back in the third set winning by a score of 6-3 to take the match from Wright State. Unfortunately, Ashlyn Rang, Toni Ormond and Olivia Large each lost their matches in three set thrillers resulting in the victory for the Raiders.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues its three-match homestand when it hosts Youngstown State Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
