Mattingly Named MAC Defensive Player of the Week
September 15, 2014 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Leah Mattingly of the Ball State women's soccer team has been named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Mattingly recorded a decisive goal and anchored a Ball State defensive unit that allowed only one score in 200 minutes over the weekend.
The sophomore defender from Floyds Knobs, Ind., played every one of those minutes, helping the Cardinals shut out Delaware in Friday's win and limit a strong Navy team to just one restart goal in Sunday's draw. She has yet to leave the field through six games this season.
Mattingly also recorded the only goal in the win over Delaware, making good on a second-half penalty kick to lift the Cardinals over the Blue Hens.
Ball State (3-1-2) returns to action Saturday with its first home game in three weeks at the Briner Sports Complex. The Cardinals will host Jacksonville State at 2 p.m. in their final non-conference game. It will also serve as Ball State's Senior Day.
The Cardinals will also be taking part in Youth Soccer Month with a clinic for youth teams ages 12 and younger following the game.
