
Women?s Golf Closes Seahawk Classic in Sixth

WALLACE, N.C. -- Led by a final-round 74 from Mary Welch, the Ball State women's golf team moved up one spot Sunday to finish in sixth place at the UNCW Seahawk Classic.
The Cardinals posted a team total of 308 on the final day at River Landing Golf Club to conclude the tournament with a 54-hole score of 936 (+73).
Elon held onto its overnight lead to win by eight shots over tournament host UNC Wilmington. Delaware took third in the field of nine teams. Elon finished with a winning total of 907 (+43) for the week.
UNCW's Lori Beth Adams extended her individual lead with an even-par final round to win medalist honors at 1 over for the tournament.
Ball State's Jenna Hague carded a final-round 75 and moved up six spots into a tie for 16th on the final leaderboard. Hague, who finished at 232 (+16), saw her impressive streak of 10 consecutive top-10 finishes come to an end.
In addition to Welch's 74 and Hague's 75 on Sunday, Ball State also counted a 78 from Meghan Perry and an 81 from Sarah Westaway. Karley Dobis shot an 83.
Perry was the second Cardinal on the final leaderboard in a tie for 22nd at 233 (+17), one shot behind Hague. Welch finished 24th at 235, followed by Westaway in a tie for 29th at 242 and Dobis in a tie for 32nd at 243.
Ball State now has one event remaining before the Mid-American Conference Championships. The Cardinals will compete Saturday and Sunday at Bowling Green's Dolores Black Falcon Invitational.
Ball State will host the MAC Championships April 25-27 at The Hawthorns in Fishers, Ind.
