Men's Tennis Sweeps North Dakota In Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Ball State men's tennis team handled The University of North Dakota Friday, sweeping the opposition, 7-0. The win pulled the Cardinals' season record to an even 7-7.
Ball State jumped on North Dakota from the get-go, picking up the day's first point winning two of the three doubles meetings. The Patrick Elliott/Andrew Stutz and Lucas Anderson/Matt Helm combinations knocked off their UND counterparts 8-2. Elliott and Stutz improved to 6-0 while Anderson and Helm paired together for the first time. Junior Ray Leonard and senior reigning MAC Player-of-the-Week Austin Smith played in the first doubles position, but came just short, 8-6.
The Cardinals followed a strong doubles performance with a clean sweep in singles. The Cards won each match in straight sets. Sixth singles player Patrick Downs had the best showing, defeating North Dakota's Jared Vigen 6-1, 6-0. The win was his ninth singles victory of the spring. Elliott (6-3, 6-0), Ray Leonard (6-3, 6-3), Smith (6-1, 6-1), Anderson (6-1, 6-2) and Shashank Nautiyal (6-1, 6-2) played from first to fifth singles respectivley and were all victorious.
Ball State continues it's westward swing with a match against UNLV Saturday morning an 11 a.m. before returning to Indiana with a match vs. Illinois in Indianapolis on Sunday, March, 23rd at 6:00 p.m. The Cardinals host Butler the following Thursday in Muncie.
