Mattingly, Oyer Earn All-MAC Soccer Honors
November 06, 2014 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State soccer players Leah Mattingly and Madison Oyer were named Thursday to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team as selected by a vote of the league's 12 head coaches.
The awards were announced on the eve of the MAC Tournament semifinals in Buffalo, N.Y., where the Cardinals are set to face No. 1 seed Buffalo at 4 p.m. Friday.
Mattingly leads all defenders in the MAC with four goals this season, tying for the most on the Ball State team. The sophomore from Floyds Knobs, Ind., has also helped to anchor a defensive unit that has posted nine shutouts for the second year in a row, just one shy of the school record. A MAC All-Freshman Team pick last year, Mattingly has played every minute for the Cardinals this season.
Oyer was named to the All-MAC Second Team for the second year in a row. The junior from Leo, Ind., has once again been a force in the Ball State midfield. She owns three goals and two assists despite being hampered by a midseason injury. Oyer becomes the sixth player in Ball State history to be named All-MAC twice in a career and the first since Megan Ridley in 2008 and 2009.
Mattingly and Oyer have helped Ball State to a second consecutive 11-win campaign and a second straight MAC Tournament semifinals appearance. Friday's Ball State-Buffalo winner will advance to meet the Western Michigan-NIU winner in Sunday's championship game for an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
