November 15, 2014 | Men's Golf
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State men's golf program signed two of the top talents in the state of Indiana to National Letters of Intent this week in Timothy Wiseman and Tyler Pearson.
Wiseman is an all-state golfer from Corydon Central High School, while Pearson, a product of Richmond, Ind., is ranked as the No. 1 player in the state. The pair will join the Cardinals in 2015-16.
“It is exciting to welcome two of Indiana's best to the Ball State golf family,” head coach Mike Fleck said. “Timothy and Tyler are both high character young men who are committed to the processes involved with being successful.”
Wiseman managed a 73.14 stroke average as a junior last spring, joining current Ball State freshmen Michael Makris, Michael VanDeventer and Johnny Watts on the all-state team. He tied for fifth at the Indiana state championships and is a two-time medalist at the Mid Southern Conference tournament.
Wiseman is a multiple winner on the Plantations Junior Golf Tour. In 2013, he won a Golfweek Junior Tour event at Delaware Country Club and an Indiana Junior Golf Masters event at Notre Dame's Warren Golf Club. Wiseman also plays basketball for Corydon Central and ranks in the top 5 percent of his high school class with a 4.2 GPA.
“Timothy is a talented multi-sport student-athlete and has established himself well in the Indiana junior and amateur ranks,” Fleck said. “He has a passion to be the best, and our culture will provide him with the opportunity to maximize his potential.”
Pearson is the top-ranked player in Indiana in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. He owns nine victories on the Plantations Junior Golf Tour and five wins on the Golfweek Junior Tour. He is a two-time Plantations Tour Player of the Year and the 2013-14 Golfweek Junior Tour Player of the Year.
The home-schooled Pearson was rated as the No. 1 player on the Plantations Tour and earned Junior All-America honors on the tour in 2012-13. He has a pair of top-five finishes in American Junior Golf Association events and played in the 2014 Callaway Junior World Golf Championships at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego.
“Tyler is an elite junior player who has competed successfully all over the country and, similar to Timothy, is very driven with his work ethic and expectations,” Fleck said. “His competitive schedule has prepared him well for top-level collegiate golf.”
