MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women's golf team signed Alyssa Cook of Carmel, Ind., to a National Letter of Intent this week. She will join the Cardinals for the 2015-16 season.
A first-team all-state selection, Cook capped her Carmel High School career with a fifth-place finish at the Indiana state championships this fall. She finished her senior season with the second-best single-season scoring average in Carmel history at 73.6.
“I have had the privilege of watching Alyssa play golf since she was a young junior competing in Indiana state events,” Ball State coach Katherine Mowat said. “Over the years, she has steadily developed into one of the top players in the state. Alyssa is committed to taking her game to the next level. Based on her talent, work ethic and passion for the game, I am confident she will be a great contributor to our program.”
Cook finished in the top four in every high school invitational during her senior season, including a win at the Hamilton Southeastern Invitational with a round of 66. She shared medalist honors in the sectional round of the state tournament and tied for second at her regional. She even broke the school's nine-hole scoring record with a 32 in one event.
A two-time co-MVP of her team, Cook helped Carmel to a state championship as a junior in 2013 and a runner-up finish as a sophomore in 2012. She was a three-time all-conference selection and three-time all-county choice.
On the summer circuit, Cook won the Mountain Dew Tour championship in 2011 and finished sixth in the Masters Tour points race in 2013.
Cook, who plays out of Crooked Stick Golf Club, was coached by Ken Kelly at Carmel. Her parents, Doug and Becky, are both Ball State graduates.
