Women’s Golf Concludes Play in Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge

PAWLEYS ISLAND, South Carolina - - On a blustery Wednesday at the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, with a gale warning in effect throughout the day, the Ball State women's golf team shot +19 (303) in its final round of the Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge.
While it was the seventh-best round among the 19-team field, the Cardinals dropped three spots on the final leaderboard and finished the three-day tournament in seventh place with a score of +38 (890).
Middle Tennessee won the event at +24 (876), while Coastal Carolina took second at +27 (879). Ball State was the top-ranked team from the Mid-American Conference in the field, however, besting Western Michigan in 10th (+54 / 906), Akron in 14th (+70 / 922) and Ohio in 16th (+77 / 929).
Individually, senior Sabrina Langerak finished the tournament tied for 10th overall with a score of +7 (220). After opening with back-to-back rounds of +1 (72), Langerak shot +5 (76) in Wednesday's final round. She recorded two more birdies, on holes eight and 16, to finish the tournament with a team-high 10.
Langerak, who was the top MAC student-athlete in the tournament, finished tied for fourth among the 100-player field with her 10 birdies. She also tied for fifth in par 5 average, at +2 (4.07), and played 30 holes at par.
Sophomore Sophie Korthuijs was Ball State's top player on the final day of competition, shooting +3 (74). She recorded the team's lone eagle of the event on the 462-yard, par-5 15th, and was one-under after 17 holes including birdies on 12 and 17. Unfortunately, a rough final hole left her tied for 20th overall at +10 (223).
One of just eight players to collect an eagle in the tournament, Korthuijs also carded seven total birdies and tied for fourth among the field in par 3 average at -1 (2.93).
In her final tour of the 6,082-yard, 71-par Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, freshman Skylar Dean also turned in a round of +5 (76) and finished the event tied for 20th overall at +10 (223). Dean's final round included three birdies, raising her tournament total to nine.
The day also saw junior JJ Gregston shoot +6 (77) and senior Sarah Gallagher come in at +12 (83). Gregston, who collected two birdies in her final round, finished tied for 28th at +13 (226), while Gallagher tied for 55th at +19 (232).
Overall, the Cardinals led the tournament field in par 4 average (+31 / 4.23) and was fourth in par 5 average (+3 / 5.05) and total birdies (34).
The Ball State women's golf team closes the 2025-26 regular season April 17-18 on the Ohio State Scarlet Course in the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational.
