October 19, 2014 | Field Hockey
ATHENS, Ohio – The Ball State (5-9, 1-3 MAC) field hockey team fell 5-3 to Mid-American Conference opponent Ohio (3-8, 2-2 MAC) Sunday afternoon. Senior Tarel Teach (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes/Beach Premier/Icoyo) led the Cardinals with two assists and three shots on goal for the day.
Sophomore Morgan Nash (Houston, Texas/Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart) cinched her first career goal following senior Tori Widrick (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia/BC Cyclones/Futures) and sophomore Colleen McGlynn (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy). The Cardinals also outshot the Bobcats 10 to seven and boasted 10 penalty corners, though a hat trick performance from Ohio's Lauryl Desch lifted the Bobcats to victory.
“Today we had some great individual effort, unfortunately it's a team sport,” Ball State field hockey head coach Beth Maddox said. “It was disappointing to see us not step up as a team. Now we have to get back to work and find a way to play as a unit.”
Goalkeeping duties were split between the halves of junior Shelby Henley (Novi, Mich./Novi) and sophomore Jordan Dues (Fallbrook, Calif./Fallbrook).
The Ball State field hockey team will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 25 when they travel to Kent, Ohio to take on Kent State at 3 p.m.
