October 19, 2014 | Women's Golf
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- The Ball State women's golf team won its morning match Saturday over Eastern Michigan before falling to Fresno State during the afternoon semifinals at the Hoosier Fall Invitational at Purgatory Golf Club.
Allison Lindley won both her matches on the day, including a 19-hole victory to provide the only point for Ball State in its semifinal loss. The Cardinals will wrap up the tournament Sunday with the third-place match against the loser of the other semifinal between Indiana and Illinois. That match was suspended by darkness late Saturday.
Ball State entered the match play portion of the tournament as the No. 7 seed based on Friday's stroke play results, but the Cardinals opened the day with a 4-1 win over No. 2 seed Eastern Michigan. They picked up wins from Lindley, Kelsey Sear, Karley Dobis and Jenna Hague with only one of those matches reaching the 18th hole.
In the afternoon, the Cardinals suffered three close losses that made the difference in a 4-1 defeat to Fresno State. Hague, Sear and Morgan Nadaline each saw their matches reach the 18th hole, but each saw their opponent win 1 up.
Ball State's third-place match is slated to begin Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Live scoring is available at birdiefire.com. The winner of the Indiana-Illinois match will meet Fresno State for the championship.
