
Field Hockey Downs Missouri State 5-0

Muncie, Ind. – The Ball State (4-7, 1-1 MAC) field hockey team shutout Mid-American Conference foe Missouri State (3-11, 0-3 MAC) in a 5-0 final Saturday afternoon of homecoming weekend at the Briner Sports Complex.
Sophomore Lexi Kavanaugh (Sherrill, N.Y./Vernon Verona Sherrill) led the team with three goals off of four shots while freshman Emily Koronko (Nanaimo, B.C., Canada/Centennial) notched her first career goal. Senior Tori Widrick (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia/BC Cyclones/Futures) rounded out the scoring with a goal off a penalty corner.
“Today was a great team win. Everyone stepped up and fought hard,” Ball State field hockey head coach Beth Maddox said. “I am proud of this group for putting the team first and now it's time we focus on Michigan State.”
Junior goaltender Shelby Henley (Novi, Mich./Novi) tallied six saves and registered her fourth career shutout. The Cardinals recorded 10 shots on goal to the Bears nine, while Missouri State led in penalty corners eight to four. With the win, the Cardinals broke its seven game losing streak.
The Ball State field hockey team will round out homecoming weekend action against Michigan State tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. on the Ball State Turf Field at the Briner Sports Complex.
