Clouser Again Named MAC Co-Golfer of the Week
October 01, 2014 | Men's Golf
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State's McCormick Clouser was selected Wednesday as the Mid-American Conference Men's Co-Golfer of the Week for the second time this fall.
Clouser won his first collegiate tournament and led Ball State to a second-place finish this week at the Fighting Irish Golf Classic.
The senior from Bluffton, Ind., recorded a career-best 54-hole total of 4-under par 209 (66-72-71) in the tournament, which was split between Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course and Lost Dunes Golf Club in Bridgman, Mich. He held or shared the lead after each of the three rounds.
Clouser's opening 66 (-5) marked the best round of his collegiate career. It was the lowest round in competition away from home by a Ball State golfer since Eric Steger posted rounds of 64 and 65 at the Xavier Renaissance Invitational in November 2009.
Clouser became the first Cardinal to win a full-team tournament since Tyler Merkel at the Golf Pride Pinehurst Intercollegiate in March 2013. He posted his second top-five finish in three tournaments this fall and lowered his stroke average to 73.55.
It is the third time in Clouser's career he has been named the league's golfer of the week. He shares this week's honor with Kent State's Chase Johnson, who finished second at Ohio State's Jack Nicklaus Invitational.
Ball State returns to action next week at the Firestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio. The Cardinals will then host the Sagamore Fall Preview Oct. 13-14 at the Sagamore Golf Club in Noblesville, site of next spring's NCAA Regional.
