April 14, 2013 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State soccer team posted a pair of dominating, shutout victories Saturday as it continued its spring campaign at the Briner Sports Complex.
The Cardinals opened the day with a 5-0 win over Grace College and later topped an under-17 team from Canada by a 9-0 score.
Nicole Pembleton tallied five total goals on the day, including four in the game two victory alone, as the Cardinals remained unbeaten for the spring at 5-0-2.
“The girls possessed the ball very well and were very structured in what we were trying to do,” Ball State coach Craig Roberts said. “We have been working on our offense and converting our scoring chances, and we did very well in that.”
In game one against Grace College, Cailey Starck opened the scoring with a goal in the opening minutes. Becca Sutton later tallied a pair of goals, while Pembleton and Maimee Morris also scored one each to account for the five goals.
Against the Canadian team, in addition to the four goals from Pembleton, Ball State got two goals from Lauren Hall and one each from Madison Oyer, Lindsay Kempf and Kalynn Flanagan.
“Nikki (Pembleton) has had a tremendous spring and has really been in fantastic form,” Roberts said. “And as a team, we just had a very controlled performance throughout the day.”
Ball State goalkeeper Layne Schramm posted a clean sheet for the day with shutouts of both opponents.
