Baseball Defeats IPFW and Taylor

The Ball State baseball team earned a 3-2 win over I-69 rival IPFW and then posted an 11-0 win over Taylor Friday afternoon at Winterholter Field on the campus of Taylor University.
With the pair of wins, the Cardinals improved to 8-8 overall on the season.
Dominick Catanzarite laid down the suicide squeeze bunt that would bring in Jarrett James for the winning run in the bottom of the ninth in the IPFW game.
IPFW's Markus Kalber, the first batter of the game, got the Mastodons up 1-0 with a homerun to left field. Tyler Shepherd singled in the third inning followed by a Kristian Gayday single. A throwing error by catcher Kevin Schlotter advanced the runners and brought Shepherd home.
The Cardinals notched their first hit of the game in the third inning with a single from Wes Winkle. T.J. Weir got the next Ball State hit in the sixth inning with a double to center.
The ninth inning saw Weir notch another double to center field. Jarrett James was brought in to pinch run and advanced to third base off a sacrifice bunt from Billy Wellman. Catanzarite was brought in to pinch hit and laid down the suicide squeeze bunt that brought James in to score the winning run.
Clay Manering got the win for the Cardinals. He pitched the final two innings and was the pitcher of record when Ball State scored in the bottom of the ninth. Manering allowed only two hits and no runs in his appearance. Chris Marangon started the game and pitched 6.1 innings. The senior allowed eight hits, two runs, one walk and nine strikeouts. The Mastodons' Jason Kalber (0-2) was credited with the loss ofter allowing eight hits, three runs, two walks and six strikeouts.
TAYLOR RECAP
Ball State blanked Taylor 11-0 in the second game of Ball State's double header day. Sam Tidaback led the way for the Cardinals scoring two runs off two hits. He also brought in two RBIs and had five putouts.
T.J. Weir connected on three hits for the Cardinals and scored one run. Pitcher Nestor Bautista saw 3.2 innings of action and was credited with the win. He struck two batters out and walked one.
Ball State will take on IPFW at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Taylor University and at 1 p.m. Sunday at Bishop Chatard High School.
