Women's Golf to Begin Fall Season at Redbird Invite
September 06, 2012 | Women's Golf
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Coming off a second-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Championship last spring, the Ball State women's golf team opens the fall portion of its 2012-13 schedule this weekend at Illinois State's Redbird Invitational.
The event gets underway with 36 holes Saturday and concludes with 18 holes Sunday, all at the Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University in Normal, Ill. The action begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT (9:30 a.m. ET) both days, and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Ball State sophomore Jenna Hague, whose individual title at the 2012 MAC Championship was of two medalist honors in her freshman season, tops the Cardinals lineup entering the first weekend of play. Hague finished second at the Ontario Junior and advanced to the match play round of the U.S. Women's Amateur over the summer.
The Cardinals' veteran lineup, which features five returning players, is one that head coach Katherine Mowat used twice last season. In addition to Hague, it includes seniors Autumn Duke and Zoe Camus plus juniors Sarah Westaway and Meghan Perry.
Karley Dobis, a freshman from Fort Wayne, Ind., will also travel this weekend and compete as an individual for her first collegiate action.
This weekend's tournament features 16 teams. In addition to Ball State, four other MAC squads -- Akron, Bowling Green, Ohio and Toledo -- are also competing.
Bradley, Detroit, Drake, Eastern Kentucky, Evansville, Illinois Wesleyan, Oakland, South Dakota State, Southern Illinois and Western Illinois join tournament host Illinois State to round out the field.
Ball State placed third as a team at last year's Redbird Invitational, behind Illinois State and Southern Illinois, while Hague finished third individually in the first tournament of her collegiate career.
This weekend's event is one of five tournaments on the fall schedule for Ball State, which will host its own Cardinal Classic in two weeks. The Cardinal Classic is scheduled for Sept. 22-23 at The Players Club in Yorktown, Ind.
