September 29, 2012 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team (2-8, 0-2 MAC) dropped a 5-3 decision Saturday afternoon at the BSU Turf Field at the Briner Sports Complex. Freshman Natalie Jardell (Granville, Ohio/Granville) had two goals for the Cardinals.
"When we stayed connected the ball stayed on our attacking side of the field," said head coach Beth Maddox. "When we did that, we were successful."
The Cardinals were on the attack in the second half, outshooting the Chippewas 12-8. Ball State edged out Central Michigan in that statistical category, 16-14, as well as in penalty corners, 10-6.
Sophomore Tori Widrick (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) got the Cardinals on the board early with a goal off a deflection. Nearly a minute later, Central Michigan's Erin Dye was assisted by Abby Roth off of a penalty corner and that was followed up by a Cayleigh Immelman goal in the 12th minute. Jardell knotted up the score in the 16th minute getting a pass from Allie White (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont).
Central Michigan's Erica Garwood scored in the 45th minute. Jardell connected on her second goal in the 63rd minute. The Chippewas sealed their victory with two goals in the 64th and 69th minutes.
Annastasia Netto was credited with the win, while Shelby Henley (Novi, Mich./Novi) had the loss.
