MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State sophomore Jenna Hague was named Mid-American Conference Women's Co-Golfer of the Week, as announced Wednesday by the league office.
Hague, who helped Ball State win its own Cardinal Classic over the weekend, shares the honor with Eastern Michigan's Alyssa Kwon.
Hague tied for first place on the individual leaderboard at the Cardinal Classic before falling in a playoff for medalist honors and finishing as the runner-up to Marshall's Korakot Simsiriwong. She carded a 36-hole score of 7-over par 151 (75-76) in challenging conditions on a cool, windy weekend at The Players Club in Yorktown.
The Burlington, Ontario, product posted her second straight top-5 result to open the season and led Ball State to an eight-stroke team victory in the 12-team field. She erased a three-shot deficit entering Sunday's final round on the par-72, 6,258-yard layout to force the playoff.
The runner-up finish marked the seventh career top-5 result in just 13 career tournaments for Hague, an All-MAC selection in 2011-12 and the reigning MAC individual medalist.
This week's award marks the third time Hague has been named the MAC Women's Golfer of the Week. She earned the award in back-to-back weeks last spring (April 11 and 18) during her freshman season.
Eastern Michigan's Kwon earned her share of this week's award by finishing as co-medalist at the Wolverine Invitational at the University of Michigan, where she posted a 54-hole score of 227 (75-75-77).
Hague and the Ball State women's golf team are now off from competition until Oct. 13 when they will begin a stretch of four straight days of tournament action. The Cardinals will play Oct. 13-14 at Indiana University's Hoosier Fall Invitational in Florence, Ind., and Oct. 15-16 at The MAC Tournament Preview in Nashport, Ohio.
