Ball State's men's golf team is in 14th place out of 17 teams at the prestigious Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz.
In a field that features six of the nation's top 30 teams at the Karsten Golf Course at ASU, the Cardinals managed a 308-292=600 in the first two rounds. The third and final round is scheduled for Saturday. San Diego State, which is ranked 12th in the nation, leads the event with a 557, while No. 3 California is second with a 561. Ball State's 292 in the second round tied for the seventh lowest team score in the field.
Tony Lazzara was Ball State's top golfer and is tied for 39th with a 78-70=148. TJ Carpenter is tied for 48th after carding a 75-74=149. Tyler Merkel is tied for 61st after tallying a 77-74=151, and Joe Gasser managed a 787-74=152 and is tied for 64th. Alex Stinson is tied for 93rd with an 82-80=162.
