
Women's Tennis Suffers 6-1 Loss to Western Michigan

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University women's tennis team lost 6-1 to Western Michigan Friday afternoon at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
With the loss the Cardinals fall to 5-12 overall and 0-5 in Mid-American Conference action while the Broncos improve their overall record to 13-9 and 2-2 in league play.
Western Michigan took an early 1-0 advantage over Ball State after winning the doubles point. The Cardinals won at No. 1 doubles after the twosome of Courtney Wild and Ashlyn Rang, both true freshmen, defeated Western Michigan's Jill Pastunink and Maria Nivia by a score of 8-3. Ball State would then lose on court two and court three allowing the Broncos to go up 1-0.
In singles action, Wild won her third straight MAC match at the No. 1 spot after pulling off a three set upset over Nini Sujashvili, 6-3, 1-6, 7-5. Wild now improves her overall record to 11-6 in dual action and a 3-2 league mark.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues conference action Saturday against Bowling Green at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center. The match will begin at 1 p.m., if inclement weather occurs the match will be moved indoors at the Muncie YMCA North Tennis Center.
