BSU Divers Head to NCAA Zone Diving C Meet Thursday

MUNCIE, Ind. - Seniors Whitney Adams and Christina Riordan of the Ball State women's swimming and diving team have qualified for the three-day NCAA Zone Diving C Championships from Bloomington, Ind., beginning Thursday at 11 a.m.
The 2012 three-day meet (Thursday-Saturday) at Indiana's Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center features divers from the states of Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Illinois and Ohio, where seven women will qualify for the women's championship March 15-17 in Auburn, Ala.
"I look forward to seeing how both Chrissy and Whitney do at the Zone meet," head coach Laura Seibold-Caudill said. 'This is a whole different level of competition for them since a majority of the divers from the Big 10 will be there. I definitely feel they are ready for it because they are both very talented divers and both of them are mentally tough. That is exactly what it takes to compete well in this meet. I am very confident that Chrissy and Whitney will represent Ball State well."
Qualification will take place beginning at 1 p.m. March 8 in the women's 1-meter event and they will return March 9 on the 3-meter, beginning at 1 p.m. Competition concludes on March 10 with the platform event, beginning at 11 a.m.
Divers qualify based on their finishes in the three events. The platform winner, 3-meter winner and 1-meter winner would earn the top three spots. The 3-meter runner-up would claim the fourth spot, with the 1-meter runner-up fifth on the grid. The 3-meter third-place finisher gets spot No. 6, while the third-place finisher on the 1-meter gets the No. 7 slot.

Riordan, a native of Homewood, Ill., returns from the Mid-American Conference Championships after posting a third-place score of 294.75 on the 3-meter board semifinals. The duo of Riordan and Adams also placed 14th and 15th at the league meet on the 1-meter board with scores of 249.20 and 245.45, respectively.
