Field Hockey Signs Six for 2012 Roster

MUNCIE, Ind. - Six student-athletes signed national letters of intent to join the Ball State field hockey program for the 2012 season.
Cameron Daniels (Virginia Beach/Frank W. Cox), Maddi Elliott (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart), Zenée Gadson (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro), Bethany Han (Lititz, Pa./Warwick), Natalie Jardell (Granville, Ohio/Granville) and Allie White (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) will be joining the returning Cardinals next season.
“We are excited to add this dynamic group of athletes to our Ball State Family. They each bring something unique to our team and we are confident they will mesh well with our current team,” head coach Beth Maddox said. “With each of our recruits the focus has been to find good kids, but with an edge. These players are extremely dedicated in the classroom and that translates to the field. We know that they will put in the work to make this team better and we could not be more excited about the 2012 season.”
Coached by Julie Smith at Frank W. Cox, Daniels is a two-year letterwinner as a defender. She tallied an overall 11 goals, nine assists and 12 defensive saves after earning First Team All-Beach, First Team All-Region, First Team All Tidewater, First Team All-State and Second Team All-Region honors. Daniels also played for the Saints Hockey Rocks club team for two years.
She lettered in soccer for two years, scoring four goals and her team was a 2011 state finalist and 2010 quarterfinalist. Daniels was also a member of the honor roll for four years. The daughter of Thomas and Pamela Daniels, she has one sister, Courtney. Born Feb. 18, 1994, in Fort Smith, Ark., she intends to major in accounting.
“Smart, strong, skilled and poised, Cameron will be a great addition to our backfield,” Maddox said. “She is a confident and poised player and we have no doubt that she will fit right in.”
Coached by Liz Lewis at Sacred Heart Acadmey, Elliott is a letterwinner as a goalkeeper. She earned Apple Invitational All-Tournament Team, Kentucky High School All-Stars and First Team All-Catholic honors as a senior. Elliott also played for the Stealth club team for two years where she served as captain in NIT and in Disney Showcase and was a four-year member of the honor roll.
The daughter of David and Lori Elliott, she has two brothers, Cameron and Adam, and one sister, Kristina. Born Jan. 14, 1994, in Louisville, Ky., Elliott intends to major in psychology.
“We are excited to add Maddi to our team,” Maddox said. “She is extremely agile and quick and will bring a new energy to the goalkeeping position.”
Coached by Gloria Byard at Glassboro, Gadson is a three-year letterwinner as a defender, earning First Team All-Conference honors as a senior, in addition to being a four-year letterwinner in track & field. She played for the TNT & Omega Track Club as a sprinter and was the Group I State Champion in the 55-meter dash in track & field and also is a member of the National Honor Society and is a four-year scholar athlete.
The daughter of Ezekial and Renee Gadson, she has two brothers, Demetrius and Courtney. Born Nov. 23, 1993, in Sicklerville, N.J., Gadson intends to major in athletic training.
“Zenee is fast, strong, versatile and is our first multi-sport athlete,” Maddox said. “She is extremely athletic and will bring a tremendous amount of speed to our already dynamic team.”
Under the direction of Bob Derr at Warwick, Han is a three-year letterwinner as a midfielder where she tallied 20 goals and 22 assists overall. She earned Second Team L-L League All-Star and Academic All-Star honors and her team was 2011 PIAA State runner-ups, 2011 District 3 Third Place and 2011 L-L League Champions. Han also played for the Sutter's Brigade club team for four years.
Han also lettered in swimming and track and played soccer, served as captain of her swim team, was a member of the distinguished honor roll, took first place at PJAS Science Fair, was Student Council Treasurer, a member of the 2010 Second Mile Leadership Conference, a 2010 Daniel Fox Youth Scholar Institute, C0-Founder of Club U.N.I.T.E. and Lititz Women's Club Senior of the Month. The daughter of Philip and Catherine Han, she was born May 23, 1994, in Lititz, Pa. and intends to major in nursing.
“Bethany is a relentless player,” Maddox said. “Her feisty nature will be a major asset to our offense.”
Coached by Jerry Aleshire at Granville, Jardell is a four-year letter winner as a midfielder/forward. She tallied an overall nine goals and six assists after earning First Team All-League, Academic All-Ohio, Most Valuable Player, Scholar Athlete All-League and Second Team All-League honors and served as the varsity captain during her sophomore season.
Jardell also played for the Columbus Coyotes club team for three years where the team went to the Festival Disney NIT National Club Championships, in addition to lettering in track & field for four years. The daughter of Jeff and Nicole Jardell, she has one brother, Matthew, and one sister, Monique. Born July 8, 1994, in Decatur, Ala., Jardell intends to major in exercise science.
“Natalie is athletic, eager to learn and strong,” Maddox said. “She is in outstanding shape and has a strong work ethic.”
White played as a forward at Fairmont under the direction of Claudia Crumbaugh, earning four letters. She earned All-State, Academic All-Ohio, First Team All-League, MVP, Co-Captain, Coaches Award and MVP awards during her time with the Firebirds, during which she tallied 55 goals and 36 assists overall. White also played for the Coyotes Field Hockey Club for three years and also lettered in track for two years in the 4x100m, 4x200m and 200-meter dash.
A member of National Honor Society and scholastic honor roll, the daughter of John and Andrea White has two sisters, Emily and Mary. Born Oct. 22, 1993, in Dayton, Ohio, White is undecided on her major.
“Intense, skilled, powerful and explosive, Allie brings a contagious competitive energy and will make an immediate impact,” Maddox said.
