Skylar Chew Named Capital One Academic All-American

Chew becomes the second Academic All-American in program history and the first to ever earn recognition on the first team. Former Cardinal Amy Holst was a second-team selection in the 2006 Academic All-America program.
A senior from Mason, Ohio, Chew is a psychology major with minors in counseling and Spanish. She owns a perfect 4.0 GPA and has earned Academic All-District honors from CoSIDA in each of the past three seasons.
On the field, Chew started all 20 games and played every minute this year for the Cardinals. She scored two goals, including the game-winner in the final minute of a double-overtime win over Bowling Green, and added an assist from her position on the back line. She also helped to anchor a defensive unit that posted five shutouts and held opponents to fewer than five shots on goal per game.
For her career, Chew made 68 starts in a Ball State uniform. She ranks among the school's all-time leaders with 6,187 minutes played over her four years.
Chew, who helped the Cardinals post an 8-7-5 record, was one of only 11 players from across the country to be selected to the first team.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a GPA of at least 3.30 and be starter or key reserve. All first-team Academic All-District selections are eligible for Academic All-America selection, which is done by CoSIDA's Academic All-America Committee.
