Field Hockey Travels to Ohio and No. 16 Ohio State

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team (3-8, 0-2 MAC) finished off its five-game home stand in exciting fashion with a 3-2 win over Indiana. The Cardinals will now spend a weekend in the state of Ohio and look to build on the successes of the past weekend.
Tori Widrick (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) leads the way with five goals for the Cardinals this season, with Tarel Teach (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes), Allie White (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) and Natalie Jardell (Granville, Ohio/Granville) each tallying four goals. Of the 12 field players for Ball State, nine have scored at least one goal this season.
Goalie Shelby Henley (Novi, Mich./Novi) has made 49 saves this season, while Maddi Elliott (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) has been credited with 36. Henley and Elliott are fourth and sixth in the conference in saves. Elliott is third in the league in save percentage at .672.
The Cardinals are second in the MAC in scoring average (2.89 goals against average), third in goals scored (25), second in goals scored per game (2.27) and second in saves per game (7.91). Freshman Bethany Han (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) is tied for fourth in the conference in assists with four on the season.
SCOUTING OHIO: The Bobcats are 5-5 on the season and are 0-1 in the conference. Ohio is coming off a 2-0 win over Saint Joseph's. Taylor Brown and Luli Gomez Teruel lead the offense with six goals each. Brown has five assists on the season as well for 17 points. Goalkeeper Brittany Walker has earned two shutouts on the season and has a 1.87 goals against average.
SERIES HISTORY: Ohio holds the all-time series advantage at 36-34. The Bobcats took a 2-1 overtime win the last time these two squads met on Oct. 23, 2011 in Muncie.
SCOUTING OHIO STATE: The Buckeyes are 8-4 on the season, most recently dropping a 2-1 game to No. 11 Iowa. Danica Deckard has scored 11 goals for Ohio State this season, five of which have been game winners. Goalkeeper Emma Voelker has a 1.42 goals against average and has been credited with three shutouts.
SERIES HISTORY: Ohio State leads the overall series at 11-7 and has won the last four meetings including a 5-0 decision at the BSU Turf Field last season.
Ball State takes on Ohio at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6 in Athens, Ohio before traveling to Columbus, Ohio to take on No. 16 Ohio State at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7.
