MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State junior Meghan Perry was named the Mid-American Conference Women's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday after winning The 2012 Preview in Nashport, Ohio.
Perry carded a 6-over par 150 (77-73) to top the field of 83 golfers at Longaberger Golf Club. The Evansville, Ind., product won by one stroke over Eastern Michigan's Meredith Fairbairn in the 36-hole event on a par-72, 6,073-yard layout.
She also helped Ball State to the team championship in the 15-team field that included eight MAC schools. The Cardinals won by three strokes over Bowling Green.
Perry used six birdies in her final 18 holes Tuesday to match the low round of the tournament with a 73. She came from six shots off the lead entering the second day to claim medalist honors. Perry's victory came on the fourth consecutive day of competition for Ball State, which played Indiana's Hoosier Fall Invitational and The Preview back-to-back.
She also led the Cardinals at the Hoosier Fall Invite, tying for 20th place at Belterra Resort and Casino in Florence, Ind. She fired a 54-hole total of 231 (78-79-74) at that tournament, where the field featured six teams ranked among the nation's top 80.
Perry is the second Ball State women's golfer to be honored by the MAC this season. Teammate Jenna Hague was the league's co-golfer of the week Sept. 26 after tying for first place and helping Ball State to the team title at its own Cardinal Classic.
The Cardinals have now completed four of the five events on their fall schedule with two victories. They will travel to San Jose, Calif., next week to wrap up the fall season at Santa Clara's Colby Invitational.
