Women's Golf One Stroke Off Lead at The Preview
October 16, 2012 | Women's Golf
The Cardinals are tied with Bowling Green, just one stroke behind tournament leader Akron, after Monday's opening round. Those three teams are five shots clear of the rest of the field with the final 18 holes of the 36-hole event to be played Tuesday.
Akron's Hanna Fink is leading the team race after posting the only red number of the day. She fired a 1-under par 71 on the Longaberger layout that is playing to 6,073 yards and a par of 72.
Junior Meghan Perry was the top Cardinal on the first day and sits in a tie for fifth place after a round of 5-over par 77. Senior Zoe Camus carded a 6-over par 78 and is tied for 10th, giving Ball State two of the top 10 in the field of 83 golfers.
Sophomore Jenna Hague and senior Autumn Duke are each tied for 19th place after posting rounds of 80, while junior Sarah Westaway is tied for 49th with an 84.
Freshman Karley Dobis, playing as an individual, joined Hague and Duke with an opening-round 80.
The tournament, hosted by Ohio, is being played on the same Longaberger course that will host the Mid-American Conference Championship in the spring.
In addition to eight MAC teams -- Ball State, Akron, Bowling Green, Toledo, Northern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and Ohio -- The Preview also features teams from Butler, Bucknell, Dayton, Youngstown State, Cleveland State and Chicago State.
Monday was the third straight day of competition for Ball State, which played Saturday and Sunday at Indiana's Hoosier Fall Invitational in Florence, Ind., before making the trip to Nashport.
