McIlvaine Named To Preseason All-MIVA Team

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State men's volleyball sophomore setter Graham McIlvaine (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central H.S.) has been named to the 2012 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Preseason All-Conference Team as voted on by the league's seven head coaches.
"Graham has done a good job developing his setting skills over the course last season and throughout the preseason," said Ball State head coach Joel Walton. "His has also become a strong leader for our team. It is an honor for him to be recognized as one of our conference's elite players."
As a freshman, McIlvaine played in 25 matches for Ball State last season, earning 22 starts at setter. He helped lead the Ball State offense to a .262 attack mark by dishing out 818 assists. He passed out a career-high 54 assists at Lewis (Feb. 11), while adding 10 digs for his third career double-double. He also tallied assist/dig double-doubles versus UCLA (Jan. 14) with 44 assists and 10 digs and at George Mason (Jan. 28) with 48 assists and a career-high 11 digs.
In addition to McIlvaine's individual honor, the Ball State men's volleyball team was picked to finish fourth in the MIVA preseason poll. Loyola was picked to win the conference with 45 points and four first-place votes. Defending NCAA National Champion Ohio State, which also won the 2011 MIVA regular season and tournament titles, was tabbed second in the league with 42 points and three first-place votes. Lewis (39 points) was picked third, followed by Ball State (21), Quincy (21), IPFW (20) and Grand Canyon (8).
The Ball State men's volleyball team opens its 2012 season Saturday, when it hosts its annual alumni match at 7:30 p.m. in Worthen Arena. Admission to the match is free.
The Cardinals' open the regular season Friday, Jan. 13 at St. Francis with a 7 p.m. first serve.
