
WBB Loses 78-70 to Akron in MAC Action

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's basketball team (7-12, 2-4 MAC) fell 78-70 in Mid-American Conference action to Akron (9-11, 3-3 MAC) Sunday afternoon in Worthen Arena.
Sophomore guard Brandy Woody led the Cardinals in scoring with a career-high 17-point performance while teammate freshman guard Brittany Carter ended day with 12. Both Carter and junior guard Mercedes Miller led Ball State defensively with eight-rebounds apiece. Despite the loss Ball State out-rebounded Akron 47-to-44.
The Zips built a 13-point cushion 60-47 with 12:51 remaining in the second half, Ball State would then fight back putting together an 8-0 run that brought the Cardinals within five- points (62-57) after baskets from Carter, Woody and Grossnickle with 8:41 left in the contest.
The Cardinals in their last efforts managed to pull within four-points, 69-65, after a layup from freshman forward Neschelle Williams with just over a minute to play but Akron connected on its free throws down the stretch to come up with the victory.
At intermission the Cardinals trailed the Zips 43-31, Ball State led at the beginning of the game, with its largest lead being 12-7 at the 15:23 mark, after a layup in the paint from junior guard Shanee' Jackson.
Akron regained control of the contest with 14:20 on the clock and would lead the remainder of the half.
