
WBB Suffers 63-48 MAC Road Loss at Toledo

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's basketball team (7-11, 2-3 MAC) suffered a 63-48 Mid-American Conference loss on the road at Toledo (10-7, 3-2 MAC) Thursday night at Savage Arena.
The Cardinals were led by freshman guard Brittany Carter with 18 points while teammates freshman guard Shelbie Justice and junior guard Mercedes Miller each added eight points apiece on the night. Defensively senior co-captain Suzanne Grossnickle and junior guard Shanee' Jackson each had six rebounds.
Toledo led the entire second half despite Ball State pulling within 11 points at the 6:36 mark. The Cardinals were held to a 25.9 percent shooting mark from the field while, the Rockets shot 48.0 percent.
In the first half, the Rockets opened the game with a three-point play but Miller answered with a basket behind the arc to tie the score 3-3 in the opening minutes of the ball game.
Toledo regained control of the contest eventually building a 10-point cushion (16-6) at the 10:26 mark. Justice hit a trey that sparked a 6-0 run for Ball State to bring the Cardinals within four (16-12) with 7:11 left.
The Rockets orchestrated a few runs of their own, eventually building a 31-20 edge over Ball State to end the half.
